Blackberries for Goats

What sort of issues does the use of animals in advertising raise? A general question with a long history. You probably have seen the back to school blackberry ad using goats; in case you have not, here is your chance to look at some interesting examples that today's The Globe and Mail have raised.

You might be one of those annoyed by Geiko!

  1. The following statement from the Globe and Mail article sums up the reason why many advertisements include animals: “Nature has universal appeal. You can talk to any age with it, from seven to 77,” says Anne-Marie LaBerge, the vice-president of marketing and communications for Telus.“

Advertisements need to relate to large audiences in order to be effective, so why not use animals?

Does anyone thin there is controversy surrounding the idea of using animals in advertisements? If so, why?

  3. I do nor have an issue with using animals in advertising. The use of animals is not to show the product for the use of the animal but as a cute appeal to consumers which would make them want to buy the product. The blackberry commercial with the goats as mentioned above shows the group of goats in similar ways as to how consumers may use their new smartphone. Cute animals create a sympathetic appeal which makes consumers feel obligated to buy their products based on the advertisements.

  4. I LOVE those adds. The goat add especially is great.

I think the reason why these phone companies use animals is because they are appealing to comsumers emotions. People think animals are cute, cute animals attract us over something that isn't as cute.

I personally would never buy something just because they use animals in their ads, but i will always pay more attention to those commercials then others.
